Ausangate Mountain is one of the most prominent peaks in the Andes mountain range, located in the Cusco region of Peru; it is considered sacred by the Andean people and is often associated with spiritual significance. The mountain is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, characterized by colorful geological formations, glacial lakes, and rugged terrain. It is also home to diverse ecosystems, including high-altitude grasslands, Andean forests, and alpine tundra, which support a variety of flora and fauna, including the Andean condor and vicuña

Tour itinerary

Day 1: Ausangate 7 Lagoons 

Very early in the morning we will collect you at your hotel to head towards the Ocongate district, then we will drive towards the community of Paqchanta. After the early meals, we will start preparing our day backpack, the ascent is gradual for a few hours until we arrive and see all the lagoons of different colors, from small to large, continuing our ascent we will reach the highest point of our journey at 4650 meters to enter the Qomerqocha valley, after having walked for half an hour we will make the last ascent to the viewpoint at the end of the lagoons, to appreciate at least 12 colorful lagoons of Ausangate. After enjoying the wonderful gift of nature, we will start the descent through the Qomercocha valley and return to enjoy lunch. We will be back in the city of Cusco around 18:00 hours

What to bring

You should bring:

  • Thermal clothes for the evenings.
  • Cash in small denominations (soles) to buy some alpaca souvenirs
  • Bathing suit, towel and sandals
  • Plastic bag for wet clothes
  • Small day pack with:

  • Toilet roll.
  • Refillable water bottle or camel-pack.
  • Sun block.
