Choquequirao Trek is one of the most impressive destinations to reach by the type of geography that is very rugged will create unforgettable memories as you walk through the majestic path of the Apurimac canyon with privileged views of snow-capped mountains, Mountains and get in touch with the biodiversity of flora and fauna in different altitudinal floors. The most common animals are the spectacled bears and the majestic Andean condor, you will have adequate time to walk and observe the landscape while enjoying the hike to the lost city of the Incas, a remote archaeological site little visited by tourists. The remote location of the Choquequirao archaeological site is beautiful, mysterious and enchanting.

Tour itinerary

DAY 1: Cachora- Capuliyoc – Santa Rosa  

We will pick you up from your hotel at 04:30 am in our transport to go to cachora 3:30 hours of travel, on the way we will make a brief stop in the town of Curahuasi to have breakfast after having enjoyed the food we will continue our journey to the beginning of the Capuliyoc hike; at this point we will meet our team of muleteers, in the distance we can already see Choquequirao. We will begin the descent towards the Apurimac canyon with an impressive view, for approximately 7 hours and we will arrive at Santa Rosa, place of our rest, this day will be very demanding the hike.

  • Hiking time: 7 hours approximately.

DAY 2 : Santa Rosa – Marampata – Choquequirao

On our second day, we will start with an early breakfast at the lodge and we will start the hike up the mountain as early as possible to avoid the sun, until we arrive to Maranpata where we will spend the night, where the family of our next lodge will be waiting for us with lunch and dinner. After a short rest we will continue towards the Inca city of Choquequirao which we will be exploring as much as we can, we will have 6 hours approximately to explore: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dinner.

  • Walking distance: 8 km
  • Hiking time: 9 hours plus the exploration of Choquequiarao

DAY 3: Marampata – Chikisca

At dawn we will take some time to rest, then we will start the return to the village of Chikisca, it will be a slow descent until we arrive to the Apurimac river where we will take some time to refresh ourselves in the sacred river, then we will be ascending to the next camp, to spend the night.

  • Walking distance: 10km
  • Walking time: 7 hours approximately.

DAY 4: Chikisca – Capuliyoc

After a good night’s sleep and an early breakfast, we will start the hike back to Capuliyoc. Following the same path the ascent time will average 3 hours to reach the end point of our journey. Finally we will be boarding our transportation back to the city of Cusco for a time of 4 hours approximately.
